Blue and Blues

11-3-2026

A slight warm-up in between moist low pressure systems tug at my desire. I drive the 45 minutes along the mountain at snow line, and down to the river wear a few leaves remain with some patches of green grass. Blue skies and blue wings greet my late morning arrival (probably late). There’s one car in the parking lot, and no footprints on the muddy trail leading up river.

Flows have been up since spring, so it’s a welcome change to once again see fish rising in this run a few hundred yards upstream from where I park. Look at those little bugs on the water already!

There’s a bunch of these around.

Splashdown Channel has water again for the first time in a couple of seasons.

Not only is more water being released for downstream interests, but the dreaded daily peak flows for power generation have returned. At least the lowest flows occur during fishing hours, especially 7 miles below the dam. I don’t see any fluctuation.

This place is a year-round terrestrial river. The animated beetle is a hit when the blue wings disappear.

In keeping with the spirit of the season, I have the place to myself.
